The Russian Finance Ministry said that it had put 556 diamonds totaling 12,595 carats up for sale, and that it had managed to sell 525 gemstones weighing 12,056 carats, the PRIME News Agency reported.
Most of the gems were bought by diamond companies Ayves, Kronus Diamond, and Ruiz Diamond, according to PRIME News Agency.
“The main difference between this auction and any other previous auction is that this time all the stones were introduced one by one,” said a Gokhran spokesperson. ”In the past, Gokhran used to compile lots consisting of several rocks and then they were put up for sale.”
The spokesperson said that Gokhran was very pleased with the results of the sale.
“This means that the market is alive and it won’t collapse, as many predicted,” he said, adding that it is too soon to determine whether there will be another auction in the future.
