JVC Seminar Answers How to be a Legally Compliant Employer

The Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC) will present a seminar on “How to Hire, Fire and be a Legally Compliant Employer in One Easy Lesson,” in Manhattan on March 14. JVC developed this program to teach jewelers about legal safeguards in order to avoid expensive and distracting employment lawsuits. In the past decade, employment lawsuits have increased almost 50 percent in federal courts and 40 percent in state courts, according to the JVC.

JVCSuzan R. Flamm, JVC’s senior counsel, will offer practical “how to” actions many jewelers can implement to avoid employment lawsuits and provide the right environment to foster employee retention. JVC’s seminar includes guidance on hiring and firing employees and will focus on how to create a favorable and compliant workplace. The event is will be held at Alfredo’s of Rome, 4 West 49th Street, from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. A complimentary catered kosher breakfast will be available.

”We’re happy to be working with the JVC,” said Michael Grumet, the executive director of the 47th Street Business Improvement District. “We want store owners, manufacturers and designers and all who employ staff to be familiar with employment practices to keep them out of the courtroom.”

Cecilia Gardner, JVC’s president, added, ”JVC’s seminar is ideal for busy jewelers on 47th Street and the surrounding area. Retailers can learn practical actions they can take to make their employment practices legally compliant and conducive to a productive work environment.”

While this JVC seminar is free, registration is required. Those interested in attending may send an email with their name, company, address, and phone number to info-at-diamondistict.org or call Natalia at 212.302.5739.
