A rise in rough diamond imports by India took place in February, IDEX Online reported.
India imported $1.33 billion worth of rough diamonds, increasing 21.3 percent, based on provisional figures published by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).
The volume of India’s imports increased 6.6 percent to 12.5 million carats, according to IDEX Online.
The average value of India’s rough diamond imports in February increased 13.8 percent to $106.19 per carat, IDEX Online News reported.
While imports of rough diamonds increased, exports have declined. India exported $107.5 million worth of rough diamonds in February, a 15.6 percent year-over-year decline.
Compared to January, imports increased 22 percent, while exports dropped 29.9 percent.
