The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) has accredited the Taiwan Gemmological Institute (TGI) as a teaching center. TGI will offer Gem-A’s Gemmology Foundation and Diploma courses in Taipei. It is Gem-A’s second approved learning center in Taiwan. The group also has teaching centers in Korea, Japan, China, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Gem-A’s chief executive, Jack Ogden, explained, ”Gem-A courses have been taught in Asia since the 1980s and the rapid regional development in the gem and jewelry industry there, especially in recent years, has made it a primary market for our gemology education. Taiwan has huge potential and a thirst for knowledge and I am very pleased that a second Gem-A teaching center has now been launched in Taipei.”
TGI’s president, Shen Mei, said, ”My instructors and I have worked enthusiastically to meet the requirements to be accredited as a Gem-A teaching center and I am happy that this agreement has now been finalized. I look forward to working with Gem-A to train a new generation of gemologists in my country, leading them to the Gem-A qualifications, which are recognized as being of the highest international status.”
