The World Watch Report reported that China has surpassed the US as the country with the highest demand for luxury watches based on online searches, according to the National Jeweler.
The Report is an online survey that analyzes and compares the performance of 40 luxury watch brands across 20 international markets and over 1 billion Internet users.
As reported in the National Jeweler, the report said that nearly one in four online searches for luxury timepieces in 2011, including diamond watches, came from China’s mainland, representing 23% of all watch-related searches. This is the first time the country has topped the survey since its launch in 2004.
The most popular searched brands in China were Omega and Longines, accounting for 20% and 19% of searches, respectively. Rolex was third with 11 percent, followed by Cartier.
An increased demand for luxury watches was also seen in Japan, India and Russia over the past year, as oppose to decreased demand in the US, Germany and Italy.
