Beau Sancy Diamond to be auctioned on May 15

An historic diamond is scheduled to be auctioned at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels sale on May 15, the Times of India reports.

The Beau Sancy diamond, named after Nicolas de Harlay, Lord of Sancy, who first bought the diamond in Constantinople in the 1500s, is a modified pear-shaped rose-cut diamond weighing 34.98 carats.

Marie de Medici wore the Beau Sancy when she was crowned Queen Consort in 1610.

According to pre-auction estimates, the diamond will sell for $2 million to $4 million.
